Biography

 

William Suvanne (b. 1979) is a Helsinki-based saxophonist and composer. He has released many albums as a leader and works extensively as a freelance musician in Finland and abroad. Winner of the Nokia Young Talent stipend and the Association of Finnish Saxophonists’ “Saxophonist of the Year” award, Suvanne released his new album “The Tenor” in January 2014.

As a leader, William Suvanne currently performs mainly on the tenor saxophone, although he can also be heard playing the soprano, alto, and baritone saxes, as well as the flute, clarinet, and hand flute, on the freelance scene. During his career he has performed in over 15 different countries on 4 continents.

Besides his role as leader, William also performs with other top-notch musicians, including Aili Ikonen, one of the most widely acclaimed singers in Scandinavia, and the trumpeter/vocalist Mikko Pettinen. He has also performed with many bands, including Nat Newborn Big Time, Funky Papas, the Arricone Big Band, and Top Of Top (Tower Of Power tribute). Currently William performs mainly with his new quartet, as well as the Aili Ikonen & Tribute to Ella, and Mikko Pettinen & Happy People projects. William also conducts the Baggböle Big Band.
